Application

The Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship is offered to qualified college bound applicants with plans to attend an accredited college or university. 

Successful candidates must demonstrate excellence in leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment to one’s personal best. The Scholarship Award is $2,000.

Qualification Criteria:
• Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and a resident of Virginia Beach, Norfolk Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, or Newport News, Virginia. 
• Applicant must be an active member of a varsity high school soccer team.
• Applicant must have “lettered” in soccer at the high school varsity level. 
• Applicant must have been accepted to an accredited college or university.
• Applicant must have played select travel soccer. 

Selection Criteria: 
The following qualities will be evaluated from the application, applicant’s essay and the letters of recommendation. A personal interview may be requested. 
• Leadership – providing a positive example for others, being a good role model; 
• Sportsmanship;
• Teamwork – being a team player, helping others to improve; 
• Commitment to excellence – dedication, striving to be as prepared as possible and performing to one’s personal best. 

Requirements: 
• Applicant must submit a complete application; 
• Current high school transcript must be submitted with application (for verification of senior class status; please exclude/redact social security number if applicable); 
• Applicant must be able to use award in current calendar year; 
• Applicant essay (500 word maximum); 
• Letters of recommendation from the following: 
• Applicant’s soccer coach (school or travel coach) 
• A non-family member 

Deadline: 
• Completed application with transcripts and letters of recommendation must be received by March 31, 2019. Please email completed applications to rwithers11@yahoo.com. Letters of recommendation and transcripts can be emailed separately from origination, with the applicant identified in the subject line.
